SpaceX announces $100 billion launch complex in southern Louisiana

SpaceX announced on Tuesday a plan to build a $100 billion rocket launch complex in southern Louisiana, marking the company’s largest site to date. The project, named Starbase Louisiana, will be situated on Pecan Island and is intended to support both Starship operations and the deployment of artificial‑intelligence‑focused satellite constellations.

The proposed facility will span roughly 125,000 acres, a scale that would allow it to accommodate thousands of Starship launches each year. According to the company, the complex is designed to handle the high‑frequency launch cadence required for its upcoming missions, integrating infrastructure for vehicle processing, fueling, and satellite integration within a single, expansive site.

If realized, the launch complex could significantly expand SpaceX’s launch capacity and reinforce its role in commercial and governmental space activities, while also potentially generating economic activity in the region surrounding Pecan Island.
