Snap’s $2,200 AR Glasses Let Users Play Dominoes Together
Snap Inc. has unveiled its latest augmented‑reality eyewear, the Specs, after more than five years of development. The new glasses build on two earlier prototypes and aim to deliver a seamless blend of virtual and physical worlds. Users can interact with digital objects in real‑time, such as selecting and placing a virtual domino that appears to sit on a real table, creating a shared experience with others wearing the same device.
The Specs feature a lightweight design and a pinch‑based gesture system that allows hands‑free manipulation of 3‑D content. In a test scenario, a user played dominoes with a Snap employee, both of whom could see and move the same virtual tiles simultaneously. Snap emphasizes that this level of collaboration is unique among current AR and VR offerings, positioning the glasses as a platform for social and productivity applications.
With the Specs now available, Snap signals its commitment to establishing AR glasses as a mainstream consumer product. The company plans to expand its ecosystem of apps and developer tools, hoping to encourage widespread adoption of shared, mixed‑reality experiences.
