Senegal's President Bassirou Diomaye Faye Becomes ECOWAS Leader

Senegal’s newly elected president, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, was inaugurated as the chairperson of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on Tuesday, assuming responsibility for steering the regional bloc’s diplomatic and security agenda. The appointment comes as ECOWAS seeks to reinforce cooperation among its 15 member states amid ongoing challenges ranging from migration pressures to cross‑border insurgencies.

In Nigeria, education officials reported that close to 19 million children are currently out of school, a figure driven largely by the persistent threat of kidnappings that have forced many families to keep their children at home. The security crisis has left numerous classrooms empty and prompted calls for intensified protective measures and accelerated enrollment initiatives to curb the growing educational gap.

Meanwhile, the Moroccan city of Tangier launched its International Photography Festival, a week‑long event showcasing visual storytelling from artists worldwide. The festival aims to promote cultural exchange and highlight photography’s role in documenting social issues, with exhibitions, workshops, and public screenings scheduled across the city’s galleries and public spaces.
