Senator Warner Criticizes Trump Over Election Security Efforts

Sen. Mark Warner (D‑Va.) criticized President Trump’s recent primetime address on election security, saying the president’s remarks demonstrate a lack of seriousness about safeguarding the electoral process. Warner cited the dismissal of the remaining Democratic members of the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) earlier in the month as evidence that Trump’s administration is willing to remove bipartisan oversight from a key independent agency that provides guidance on election administration standards.

The EAC, which works with local and state officials to promote secure and reliable elections, had its last two Democratic commissioners removed following a Trump‑appointed board’s decision. Warner noted that the agency’s work—often invisible to the public—plays a critical role in setting best practices for voting systems and training election staff.
