Senator Hawley accuses Meta of targeting whistleblower Sarah Wynn-Williams

Republican U.S. Senator Josh Hawley has formally accused Meta Platforms Inc. of employing “lawfare” in an effort to silence and financially cripple a former employee who acted as a whistleblower. In a letter addressed to Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg, Hawley alleged that the company is targeting Sarah Wynn‑Williams, who previously served as Facebook’s global head of public policy, for exposing internal practices concerning the firm’s interactions with China and its policies affecting teenage users.

The senator demanded detailed information on any steps Meta has taken to monitor Wynn‑Williams and her family, asserting that such surveillance constitutes an ongoing campaign to “destroy” the whistleblower. Hawley’s accusations come amid broader scrutiny of Meta’s handling of user data, content moderation, and geopolitical influence, and add political pressure on the company to address concerns about retaliation against employees who raise internal concerns. Meta has not yet responded publicly to the senator’s inquiries.
