Security Council to Discuss Ongoing ISIL Threat

The United Nations Security Council will convene on Wednesday to review the continuing threat that the terrorist organization ISIL, also known as Daesh, poses to global peace and security. The meeting follows a June conference in which the acting head of the UN Counter‑Terrorism Office highlighted that Al Qaeda, Da'esh, and their affiliates remain adaptive and resilient, continuing to evolve their tactics and operational reach.

According to the counter‑terrorism briefing, these groups are increasingly leveraging artificial intelligence and other emerging technologies to expand their influence, recruit new members, and mobilise resources. The Council’s agenda will address strategies to counter these technological advancements and assess the effectiveness of current counter‑terrorism measures.
