SDSS-V Releases 20th Data Set, Expanding Milky Way Spectroscopic Map

The Sloan Digital Sky Survey V (SDSS‑V) has released its 20th public data set (DR20), marking a major milestone for the Milky Way Mapper (MWM) program. The new release expands the survey’s coverage of the Milky Way, providing the most detailed spectroscopic map yet assembled of stars within and around our galaxy.

DR20 includes millions of stellar spectra obtained with SDSS‑V’s twin robotic fiber‑fed spectrographs, covering a wide range of stellar types and Galactic environments. The expanded dataset improves spatial and velocity sampling across the disk, halo, and bulge, enabling more precise studies of stellar populations, chemical abundances, and Galactic dynamics. The release also incorporates updated calibration procedures and quality flags to facilitate robust scientific analysis.
