Scotland and Netherlands Criticize ICC World Cup Changes

The boards argue that the changes, announced as part of the ICC’s broader “global cricket calendar” reforms, disregard the progress made by emerging teams in recent qualifying cycles and could erode the financial and competitive incentives that have driven growth in Scotland and the Netherlands. They are calling for a review of the format, urging the ICC to retain a ten‑team field and to ensure a transparent, merit‑based qualification process that preserves opportunities for associate nations. The ICC has not yet responded to the criticisms, but officials indicated that the revised structure will be implemented for the 2027 World Cup.
