Russian ballistic missiles strike Kyiv after Zelensky's warning

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy returned to Kyiv on Thursday after a three‑day visit to the United States, where he met President Joe Biden and senior officials in Washington. In a televised address, Zelenskyy emphasized that Ukraine’s security hinges on the continued willingness of Western allies to supply modern anti‑missile systems, noting that Russian aerial and missile strikes have intensified across the country’s energy and civilian infrastructure. He thanked the United States for recent aid packages that include artillery, ammunition and training, but warned that without additional air‑defence assets such as Patriot, SAMP/T or NASAMS batteries, Kyiv’s ability to protect its population and critical sites remains vulnerable.

Zelenskyy called on NATO members and other partners to expedite deliveries and to consider long‑term commitments for replenishing and upgrading Ukraine’s missile‑defence network. He cited recent attacks that have caused widespread power outages and civilian casualties, underscoring the strategic importance of a robust shield against both ballistic and cruise missiles. The president’s remarks come as European capitals debate further financial and military support, with several countries indicating they are reviewing stockpiles for possible transfers. Zelenskyy concluded that the collective resolve of allies will determine whether Ukraine can sustain its defence and maintain stability in the region.
