Russia missile and drone attack kills 17 in Kyiv

A nighttime attack by Russian forces on Kyiv resulted in at least 17 fatalities, officials confirmed on Monday. The strike, carried out with a combination of ballistic missiles and drones, struck residential and public areas in the capital, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense.

The Ministry of Defense reported that the missiles were launched from the east of the country, while the drones targeted multiple districts simultaneously. Emergency services responded to the scenes within minutes, but the damage was extensive, with several buildings heavily damaged and widespread power outages reported. Ukrainian authorities have called the attack a violation of international law and urged the international community to respond.

Kyiv’s mayor and the national security council have pledged to investigate the incident and to strengthen the city’s air‑defence capabilities. The attack comes amid escalating tensions in the region, with both sides accusing each other of escalating the conflict.
