Roland Launches Melody Flip, a Generative AI Music Plugin

Roland has unveiled Melody Flip, a new generative‑AI plug‑in that expands the company’s presence in music creation software. Designed for integration with digital audio workstations, the tool promises to help producers generate musical ideas quickly, though it stops short of delivering fully produced tracks.

Melody Flip offers roughly 250 “Palettes,” each a themed collection of motifs organized by genre. Users can either start from scratch, instructing the AI to produce a melody, chord progression, bassline, or drum pattern, or they can upload a reference track and have the system expand upon its melodic content. Unlike other AI‑music services such as Suno or Udio, which output complete songs with vocals and full arrangements, Melody Flip focuses on foundational musical elements rather than finished productions.

With its palette‑based approach, Roland positions Melody Flip as a flexible creative aid rather than a turnkey songwriting solution. The plug‑in’s emphasis on core musical components may appeal to producers who prefer to shape the final arrangement themselves, while still benefiting from AI‑driven inspiration.
