Rescuers use explosives to reach trapped hydropower workers in Nepal

Rescuers in the flood‑stricken region have turned to controlled explosives in an effort to reach workers trapped beneath debris, as the official death toll from the disaster climbed to 939. Emergency teams from the national disaster agency, the military, and local fire services arrived on the scene within hours of the rising waters, deploying heavy‑equipment excavators and hydraulic cutters before opting for demolition charges to clear collapsed structures that block access routes.

The operation, coordinated from a temporary command center, focuses on stabilising the area while crews work to locate and extract the remaining victims. Authorities have reported that dozens of workers remain unaccounted for, prompting the use of explosives to create safe passages for rescue teams.
