Ratko Mladic's body arrives in Belgrade with full military honors

The remains of former Bosnian Serb military leader Ratko Mladic were transferred to Belgrade on Saturday, where they were received by a full military honor guard at the city’s central railway station before being moved to a government facility for further handling. Officials from the Ministry of Defence confirmed that the body was escorted by a contingent of soldiers and that security measures were in place to manage the procession and the subsequent reception.

Mladic, convicted by the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia of genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity for his role in the 1995 Srebrenica massacre and the siege of Sarajevo, died in 2022 while serving a life sentence in The Hague. The repatriation of his remains follows a request from his family and has been coordinated with Serbian authorities, who have not yet announced details regarding burial or memorial arrangements.
