Radioligand Therapy Improves Survival in Metastatic GEP-NETs
The Phase III COMPETE trial has demonstrated that the targeted radiotherapeutic agent [¹⁷⁷Lu]Lu‑edotreotide markedly extends progression‑free survival (PFS) in patients with metastatic gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (GEP‑NETs) when compared with the standard targeted therapy everolimus. The multicenter, randomized study enrolled individuals with advanced GEP‑NETs who had progressed on prior therapies, assigning them to receive either [¹⁷⁷Lu]Lu‑edotreotide or everolimus in accordance with protocol‑specified dosing schedules. Interim analysis revealed a statistically significant improvement in median PFS for the radiotherapeutic arm, indicating a longer duration before disease progression relative to the everolimus cohort.
These findings position [¹⁷⁷Lu]Lu‑edotreotide as a potentially superior treatment option for metastatic GEP‑NETs, offering clinicians an alternative to existing targeted therapies.
