Qatar prioritizes unconditional reopening of Strait of Hormuz

Doha’s foreign ministry announced on Monday that Qatar is intensifying diplomatic efforts aimed at ending what it described as the United States’ “war on Iran.” The statement, issued by the ministry’s spokesperson, said Qatar is working with regional and international partners to facilitate dialogue and de‑escalate tensions that have risen following recent U.S. sanctions and military posturing toward Tehran. Qatar’s officials emphasized that the Gulf state remains committed to a peaceful resolution and is prepared to host talks, mediate contacts and provide logistical support for any negotiations between Washington and Tehran.

The ministry’s remarks come amid heightened concerns in the Middle East about the risk of broader conflict, with several countries urging restraint and urging diplomatic channels. Qatar, which has previously acted as a mediator in regional disputes, highlighted its role as a neutral interlocutor capable of bridging gaps between the parties. While no specific timetable was given, the foreign ministry said the initiative will continue “until a sustainable diplomatic solution is achieved,” underscoring Doha’s aim to contribute to regional stability through dialogue rather than force.
