Powerful Individuals Quickly Blamed for Mistakes, Study Finds

The team examined nearly 100,000 conflict posts on the Reddit subreddit “Am I the Asshole?” to assess how power dynamics influence blame attribution. Their analysis revealed that posts involving a powerful figure were disproportionately labeled as the culprit, even when the evidence for fault was ambiguous. The results, which appear in the *Journal of Personality and Social Psychology*, point to an entrenched tendency to hold those in authority accountable for errors.
