Povorcitinib Effective in Moderate-to-Severe Hidradenitis Suppurativa

A recent clinical investigation has shown that povorcitinib, an oral Janus kinase 1 (JAK‑1) inhibitor, can benefit patients suffering from moderate‑to‑severe hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). The study, which appeared online on July 23 in *Nature Medicine*, evaluated the drug’s efficacy and safety profile in a controlled setting and reported clinically meaningful improvements in disease severity and patient‑reported symptoms.

The trial enrolled individuals with HS who had not responded adequately to standard therapies. Participants received povorcitinib over a defined period, and investigators measured changes in the Hidradenitis Suppurativa Clinical Response (HiSCR) score, pain levels, and quality‑of‑life metrics. Results indicated a statistically significant increase in the proportion of patients achieving HiSCR compared with placebo, alongside a favorable safety profile with no new or unexpected adverse events.
