Police leadership overhaul urged by review
An independent review released this week has concluded that the development and recruitment processes within the service are in need of comprehensive reform. The report, compiled by a panel of external experts, examined current hiring practices, staff training programmes and career‑progression pathways, finding that many procedures are outdated, lack transparency and do not consistently align with best‑practice standards in comparable organisations.
The panel recommends a series of measures aimed at modernising the service’s workforce management, including the introduction of merit‑based recruitment criteria, clearer competency frameworks for promotion and enhanced professional development opportunities for existing staff. It also urges the service’s leadership to implement regular monitoring and reporting mechanisms to ensure the effectiveness of any changes. The findings are expected to be reviewed by senior officials in the coming weeks, with a view to integrating the recommendations into upcoming policy updates.
