Polanski Selected as Green Party Candidate for Holborn and St Pancras

The Green Party of England and Wales has declared that, despite being the underdog in the Holborn and St Pancras constituency, it believes it can secure a victory in the upcoming general election. Party leader Carla Denham told reporters in a press briefing that the Green Party’s message of climate action, affordable housing and public transport reform resonates with the area’s diverse electorate, even though the seat has historically been a Labour stronghold.

Holborn and St Pancras, which covers part of central London’s West End and the University of London campus, returned a Labour candidate with a comfortable majority in the 2019 election, while the Greens captured just over five percent of the vote. The Green candidate for the seat, who has campaigned on a platform that includes a zero‑emissions transport plan and a local housing affordability strategy, argues that the growing number of young professionals and students in the area are increasingly receptive to the party’s environmental and social justice agenda. The party has also highlighted its record of holding local councils in the boroughs of Camden and Islington, where it has been able to influence policy on public services and sustainability.

While the Green Party acknowledges the challenges of unseating a well‑established Labour incumbent, it remains optimistic that a focused campaign and the growing public concern over climate change could tip the balance in its favour. The party’s leadership has urged supporters to mobilise voters who feel underrepresented by the major parties, emphasizing that a win in Holborn and St Pancras would signal a broader shift in London’s political landscape.
