Pepperdine University displays nearly 3,000 flags to honor 9/11 victims

Nearly 3,000 American flags were displayed across Pepperdine University’s Malibu campus on Saturday as part of a commemorative ceremony honoring the victims of the September 11, 2001 attacks. The installation, organized by the university’s Office of Student Life in partnership with local veterans groups, featured the flags arranged along the main walkways and in the central quad, creating a visual tribute that attracted dozens of visitors, alumni, and current students.

University officials said the event was intended to provide a space for reflection and to reinforce the campus community’s commitment to remembering the lives lost and the resilience that followed the attacks. A moment of silence was observed at 9:00 a.m., after which a short program included remarks from the university president and a reading of the names of the 2,977 victims. The ceremony concluded with the raising of a single flag at sunset, symbolizing unity and ongoing remembrance.
