Pentagon AI chief says US allies lack resources to match US military AI adoption

Cameron Stanley, the Pentagon’s chief digital and artificial intelligence officer, described the United States’ artificial‑intelligence programs as “revolutionary” during a briefing at the Billington Cybersecurity Summit on Tuesday. He warned that NATO and Five Eyes partners—comprising the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and New Zealand—do not possess the same level of resources, experience or scale as the U.S. military, which could hinder their ability to keep pace with America’s rapid AI adoption.

Stanley said Washington is actively engaging with these allies to share lessons learned and to help them avoid the missteps the United States has encountered in its own AI integration. The Pentagon’s outreach aims to align strategic development, ensure interoperability, and strengthen collective defense capabilities while mitigating the risk of divergent or inefficient AI implementations among the allied forces.
