Pennsylvania Reports Fourth Measles-Related Death

Pennsylvania officials have announced a fourth death linked to measles, bringing the state’s total fatalities from the current outbreak to four. The latest case involved an 18‑year‑old resident of Mifflin County, located in the state’s central region.

According to a Facebook post from the Mifflin County coroner’s office, the cause of death was acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, a rare but severe neurological complication that can arise after a measles infection. The coroner’s statement confirmed that the teenager’s illness was directly associated with the measles virus.

The additional fatality highlights the continuing public health challenge posed by measles in Pennsylvania. Public health authorities have urged residents to remain up‑to‑date on vaccinations and to seek medical care promptly if symptoms of measles appear.
