Open-source Bor delivers real-time policy management for Linux desktops

Bor, an open‑source platform for centralized Linux desktop management, has been unveiled by its creators. The system is built around a lightweight Go agent that runs on each workstation and a central server that distributes configuration policies. Communication between the agent and server is handled over mTLS‑secured gRPC streams, allowing real‑time policy updates without the need for polling.

Version 0.8 expands Bor’s policy catalogue and refines its architecture. In addition to the previously supported Firefox, Chrome, KDE, dconf, polkit, and package‑management policies, the new release introduces policies for Thunderbird, Microsoft Edge for Business, and FirewallD zone configuration. The update also includes several bug fixes and performance improvements, reinforcing the platform’s reliability for enterprise‑grade desktop control.
