One-Third of Chronic Rhinosinusitis Patients with Nasal Polyps Show Anxiety Symptoms

A new study published in the Journal of Inflammation Research reports that a considerable proportion of patients with chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) experience anxiety symptoms. The research, which examined individuals diagnosed with CRSwNP, found that anxiety was a common comorbidity, highlighting the mental‑health burden associated with this chronic inflammatory condition of the nasal passages and sinuses.

The findings underscore the need for clinicians to incorporate routine psychological assessment into the management of CRSwNP, as addressing anxiety may improve overall treatment outcomes and quality of life for affected patients. Further investigation is warranted to determine the underlying mechanisms linking nasal polyposis and anxiety and to develop integrated care strategies.
