Northern Ireland Sets Tree Planting Target

Northern Ireland has set a target to increase its woodland cover to 12% by 2050, as outlined in its updated forestry strategy. Currently, the region’s woodland area stands at approximately 8%, significantly below the UK average of 13%. The Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA) announced the goal as part of broader efforts to combat climate change, enhance biodiversity, and support rural economies.
