Nepal issues flood warnings as death toll rises after severe floods

Flood warning alerts were broadcast to mobile phones across the region on Sunday morning as rescue teams worked to clear the primary highway that links Kathmandu with a town identified as one of the hardest‑hit areas by the floods that struck on Wednesday. The alerts, issued by the national disaster management authority, instructed residents and travelers to avoid the route and to follow evacuation instructions from officials on the ground.

Emergency responders coordinated the evacuation of residents, vehicles and aid supplies along the corridor while assessing damage to bridges, roadways and nearby settlements. The Wednesday floods, caused by unprecedented monsoon rains, left dozens dead, displaced thousands and damaged critical infrastructure in several districts. Authorities continue to monitor river levels, distribute relief items and repair the main road to restore connectivity between the capital and the affected communities.
