Nepal floods kill over 730, nearly 2,500 still missing

Nepalese authorities announced Sunday that the provisional death toll from the recent floods has risen to more than 730, with nearly 2,500 people still unaccounted for. The monsoon‑triggered deluge has inundated large swaths of the country, destroying homes, infrastructure and agricultural land, and prompting a large‑scale rescue and relief operation coordinated by the government, the army and international aid agencies.

Among the missing is the husband of a 22‑year‑old woman who, like thousands of other residents, visited a medical centre seeking confirmation that her spouse’s body had not been among those recovered. The woman remains hopeful for his return, underscoring the personal toll of the disaster even as officials continue to tally casualties and search for the missing.
