Nepal begins mass burials as flood death toll exceeds 900

On Monday, Nepal commenced mass burials for the hundreds of victims of last week’s catastrophic flash floods that struck the Nepal‑Tibet border. Authorities announced that the death toll had risen past 900 people, underscoring the severity of the disaster that unfolded in the remote Himalayan region.

Search and rescue teams in both Nepal and neighbouring China are still combing the affected areas for more than 4,000 missing individuals, including a large number of hydropower plant workers who were caught in the sudden deluges. The floods, triggered by intense rainfall, swept away villages and infrastructure, leaving communities isolated and the region’s water‑power projects severely disrupted.
