NASA Updates Community College Aerospace Scholars Challenge

Community college students nationwide have been given a new avenue to connect their coursework with careers in aerospace, science, engineering and technology through an updated NASA Community College Aerospace Scholars (NCAS) student challenge. Launched this month, the program invites eligible students to deepen their understanding of NASA’s missions, interact directly with agency experts, and explore pathways to future employment within the space sector. The challenge, which runs from October through December, requires participants to complete a series of online modules, submit a project proposal addressing a real‑world aerospace problem, and present their findings to a panel of NASA scientists and engineers.

The revamped NCAS initiative expands eligibility to all accredited two‑year institutions in the United States and offers scholarships, mentorship opportunities, and potential internships for top‑performing scholars. NASA officials say the program is designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and the agency’s workforce needs, emphasizing hands‑on experience and interdisciplinary collaboration. Applications close on September 30, and selected students will be notified in early November, positioning them to engage with NASA’s latest research and development efforts as the agency prepares for upcoming missions.
