MP urges transparency on security at UK Ukrainian drone factory

Security officials and parliamentary committees are reviewing the protective measures surrounding a Ukrainian‑owned drone manufacturing facility that has recently begun operations in the United Kingdom. The plant, located in the industrial zone of Coventry, is part of a joint venture aimed at supplying unmanned aerial systems to both Ukrainian forces and NATO allies. Concerns were raised after a briefing by the Defence Security and Intelligence Committee highlighted potential gaps in physical security, cyber safeguards, and access control, prompting calls for a comprehensive risk assessment.

The Ministry of Defence has confirmed that it is working with the Home Office and the plant’s operators to verify that existing protocols meet national security standards. An inter‑agency task force will conduct inspections and recommend enhancements, including upgraded perimeter fencing, stricter personnel vetting, and reinforced data protection measures. The review is expected to be completed within the next six weeks, after which the facility will be cleared to continue production under the stipulated safeguards.
