Microsoft forces LG to stop McAfee pop‑ups on Windows 11

Microsoft has intervened to stop Windows 11 users who connect LG monitors from being inundated with McAfee trial pop‑ups. After a wave of complaints about the “LG bloatware” that appears when the LG Monitor App Installer updates drivers, Microsoft’s Windows chief Pavan Davuluri confirmed that LG has agreed to disable the pop‑up immediately and will work with Microsoft to prevent similar issues in the future.

The crackdown follows backlash over large pop‑up ads for McAfee antivirus and LG’s own apps that appeared on Windows 11 PCs after a driver update was silently installed when a monitor was connected. Microsoft said it will continue to improve the experience with its ecosystem partners, pledging to keep the ecosystem free of intrusive advertising.
