Microsoft Blames RGB Lighting Devices for Windows Gaming Issues
Microsoft has identified that certain RGB lighting devices are responsible for a wave of gaming‑related issues on Windows, according to a statement released by the company and reported by BleepingComputer. The company said that drivers from third‑party lighting hardware—such as those produced by Corsair, Razer, and other popular brands—can interfere with the Windows graphics stack, causing crashes, stuttering and other performance problems in games. Microsoft’s investigation found that the conflicts arise when the lighting firmware attempts to communicate with the GPU driver, leading to instability in the Windows 11 gaming environment.
To address the problem, Microsoft has urged users to either disable RGB lighting or update the device’s firmware to the latest version, noting that many vendors have already released fixes that eliminate the driver clashes. The company is working closely with hardware manufacturers to ensure that future lighting drivers are fully compatible with the Windows graphics stack, and it has promised a system update that will mitigate the issue for affected users. The announcement comes amid growing reports from gamers that performance hiccups are linked to lighting peripherals rather than the operating system itself.
