Meta tests robots for data center technician tasks

The company announced a pilot program in which autonomous robots are being evaluated on a series of tasks traditionally carried out by human technicians. The trial, which began this month, focuses on routine maintenance, diagnostic inspections, and component replacement in the firm’s manufacturing facilities, aiming to assess the robots’ precision, reliability and integration with existing workflows.

Over the next six months, the robots will operate alongside technicians in controlled environments while performance data are collected on task completion time, error rates and safety compliance. Results will determine whether the technology can be scaled for broader deployment across the company’s production lines, with a final assessment report slated for release later this year.
