Massive wildfire spreads in Castellon province, eastern Spain

Wildfires are raging across Spain, with active blazes reported in the eastern province of Castellón and the western region of Zamora. Fire crews are working around the clock to contain the flames, while local authorities have ordered the evacuation of thousands of residents from the most affected areas.

The Spanish Civil Guard and the National Fire Service have deployed ground teams, water‑bombing aircraft, and aerial water‑dropping units to the hotspots. In Castellón, the blaze has scorched more than 2,000 hectares, prompting the evacuation of over 5,000 people, while in Zamora the fire has already destroyed several hectares of forest and agricultural land, forcing the displacement of a smaller, but still significant, community. Air support has been coordinated through the Spanish Air Force and private aviation contractors, delivering water and fire retardant to hard‑to‑reach spots.
