Majority of Democrats in early 2028 primary states oppose U.S. aid to Israel, cite genocide claims

A recent poll released on Thursday found that a majority of Democratic voters in the first six states scheduled to hold primaries for the 2028 presidential election believe that Israel is committing genocide. The survey, conducted by the political research firm Insight Analytics in late March, sampled 3,200 registered Democrats across Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Respondents were asked to rate their agreement with the statement that “Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinian people,” and 58% answered “agree” or “strongly agree,” while only 22% disagreed.

The poll’s findings come amid growing debate over U.S. foreign policy toward the Middle East and the role of congressional support for Israel. Insight Analytics’ lead researcher, Dr. Maya Patel, noted that the perception of genocide is higher among Democrats who identify as progressive or who have strong ties to immigrant communities. The survey also revealed that 71% of respondents in these states say they would consider supporting a candidate who adopts a more critical stance on Israeli military actions, a shift that could influence campaign messaging in the early primary states.

While the poll does not indicate how these views will translate into votes, analysts suggest that the perception of Israel’s conduct may become a key issue for Democratic candidates seeking to mobilize voters in the Southern primaries.
