Main Street Sports Sues Comcast and Charter Over Undisclosed Licensing Fees
Main Street Media announced that it is winding down its portfolio of regional sports networks following the conclusion of the NHL and NBA seasons earlier this year. The decision comes as part of a broader strategy to streamline the company’s broadcasting operations and reallocate resources toward emerging digital platforms. The announcement indicated that the networks will be phased out over the next several months, with final closures expected by the end of the calendar year.
The winding down will affect six regional sports networks that had previously carried local NHL and NBA games, as well as other regional sports programming. Contracts with local teams and affiliates are being renegotiated or terminated, and several employees will be offered transition assistance or severance packages. Industry analysts note that the move reflects a broader shift in sports media, where traditional regional broadcasts are increasingly supplanted by streaming services and direct-to-consumer offerings.
With the regional sports networks being phased out, Main Street Media will concentrate on its core national broadcasting assets and digital content initiatives. The company’s leadership emphasized that the transition aims to strengthen its competitive position in a rapidly evolving media landscape while maintaining service continuity for remaining audiences.
