Liverpool sells minority stake to Jeff Bezos-backed consortium
Liverpool Football Club announced on Friday that its majority owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), will sell a minority stake in the club to a consortium led by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Facebook co‑founder Eduardo Saverin. The transaction will see the new investors take a small shareholding in the club, while FSG will retain its controlling interest.
As part of the deal, former Queens Park Rangers owner Amit Bhatia is set to join Liverpool’s board as vice‑chairman. Bhatia’s appointment follows the sale, and he will work alongside FSG’s existing leadership to oversee the club’s operations and strategic direction. The consortium’s entry is expected to bring additional capital and expertise to the club, potentially supporting future investment in player acquisitions and infrastructure.
The announcement marks a significant shift in Liverpool’s ownership structure, adding high‑profile investors to the club’s governance while maintaining FSG’s majority control. The new partnership is anticipated to strengthen the club’s financial position and broaden its global reach.
