Liverpool owner FSG seals £1.65bn sale of 30% stake to consortium including Jeff Bezos
Liverpool FC Sale: Consortium Secures 30% Stake for £1.65bn
In a significant development, Fenway Sports Group, the current owner of Liverpool Football Club, has confirmed the sale of a 30% stake in the club to a consortium led by Amit Bhatia. The deal, valued at £1.65bn, brings the total worth of the club to £5.5bn, making it one of the most valuable football clubs in the world. Bhatia, who will assume the role of vice-chairman on an expanded board, initiated and led negotiations with FSG on behalf of the 1892 Holdings consortium, a nod to Liverpool's founding year.
The consortium, which includes Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, has secured financial backing from prominent investors, including the Mittal Family Trust, the K5 Sports fund led by Bezos, and EE Capital, the family office of Elaine and Eduardo Saverin. Bhatia, the son-in-law of Indian steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, has a background in football ownership, having previously co-owned Queens Park Rangers. This significant investment is expected to bring fresh resources and expertise to the club, potentially paving the way for future growth and success.
The deal marks a significant milestone in Liverpool's history, with the club poised to benefit from the new investment and leadership. As the club continues to evolve, fans and stakeholders will be eager to see how this partnership will shape the team's future, both on and off the pitch.
