Lisa Nandy Quits X Over Abuse and Misinformation Concerns

The UK’s culture secretary, Lisa Nandy, announced that her department will cease all official use of the X platform, citing the site’s “now favours abuse and misinformation over meaningful debate.” Nandy said the decision follows the earlier exit of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, making the culture department the second UK government body to abandon the Elon Musk‑owned service.

The secretary warned that X increasingly highlights and prioritises far‑right and racist content, which she argues fuels violence and division. She added that the platform’s algorithmic amplification of such material undermines constructive public discourse and poses a risk to national cohesion. As a result, the culture department will redirect its communications to alternative channels that better safeguard against abuse and misinformation.

The move signals a growing governmental concern over the influence of extremist narratives on social media and underscores the need for public institutions to adopt safer, more reliable communication tools.
