Light Phone Adds Uber and Lyft Rideshare Tool

Light has expanded the functionality of its minimalist “Light Phone” with a new rideshare tool that plugs directly into Uber and Lyft. The feature, available to owners of the Light Phone III and the forthcoming Light Flip, lets users locate pickup and drop‑off points, view fare estimates and estimated arrival times, and choose from various trip options or frequently visited saved locations.

Once a ride is selected, the phone displays driver details and ETA, and offers a direct call button if the rider needs to contact the driver. The integration is part of an early preview of LightOS’s “tool library” SDK, which is designed to let third‑party developers add additional services to the device without compromising its low‑distraction philosophy.

The update, reported by The Verge, demonstrates Light’s effort to balance its core focus on reduced digital clutter with practical conveniences that modern smartphone users expect.
