LG Monitors Auto-Install McAfee Ads on Windows PCs

LG’s UltraGear 34GX900A‑B monitor has been found to install LG’s own software automatically on Windows 11 PCs. A video from Gamers Nexus shows that, upon first connecting the monitor to a new computer, Windows Update silently downloads LG driver updates and the LG Monitor App Installer without prompting the user for permission or displaying a notification.

The installer does not provide any direct control interface; instead it simply redirects users to LG’s suite of applications and, in several cases, to McAfee antivirus. Reports of this behavior date back to 2024, and recent complaints on Reddit highlight intrusive pop‑up ads that appear in the bottom‑right corner of the screen, promoting both LG and McAfee products. The Verge has reported on the issue, noting that LG has not yet issued a formal response.

While the auto‑installation may be intended to keep drivers current, the lack of user consent and the promotion of third‑party software raise concerns about privacy and user experience. Users of the 34GX900A‑B and similar models are advised to monitor Windows Update behavior and consider disabling automatic driver installations if they wish to avoid unexpected software installs.
