Lexar Announces Muse Ultra‑Slim Portable SSD with 3.8 mm Thickness and Up to 1,050 MB/s Read Speed

Lexar is set to join a growing number of storage manufacturers, including Xteink, in prioritising ultra‑thin form factors over traditional connectivity options. The company’s upcoming Muse Ultra‑Slim Portable SSD, slated for release later this year, will forgo a USB‑C port in favor of a markedly reduced profile, offering 512 GB and 1 TB models that rank among the thinnest external drives on the market.

Measuring 3.8 mm at its central thickest point and tapering to just 1 mm at the edges, the drive achieves its slimness through high‑density NAND stacking and a custom ultra‑thin printed‑circuit‑board architecture. Despite the compact design, Lexar reports sequential read speeds of up to 1,050 MB/s and write speeds reaching 1,000 MB/s, performance sufficient for handling 4K Apple ProRes video capture at up to 120 fps. The Muse Ultra‑Slim aims to combine minimal bulk with high‑speed data transfer for professional and consumer users alike.
