Lebanese PM calls Israeli strikes in south Lebanon a violation of international law

Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has dismissed Israel’s assertion that the villages destroyed in southern Lebanon during the recent airstrikes were military targets. In a statement released earlier today, Salam called the claim “unsubstantiated” and emphasized that the affected communities were civilian in nature. He urged the international community to investigate the incidents and to hold accountable those responsible for the destruction.

The Israeli military, citing security concerns, said the strikes were aimed at infrastructure used by hostile groups operating in the region. However, Lebanese officials and independent observers have reported that the villages, which have long been inhabited by civilians, suffered extensive damage with little evidence of military presence. Salam’s remarks come amid heightened tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border, with both sides accusing the other of violating international law and threatening further escalation.

Salm’s statement reaffirms Lebanon’s position that its sovereignty must be respected and that civilian areas cannot be used as cover for military operations. He called on the United Nations and other international bodies to conduct a thorough inquiry into the attacks, stressing the need for accountability and the protection of civilian lives in the conflict zone.
