KRISS unveils room-temperature plug‑play single‑photon source

Seoul, South Korea – The Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science (KRISS) announced the creation of a room‑temperature single‑photon source integrated into a compact 19‑inch rack‑mounted unit that operates without the need for cryogenic cooling. The plug‑and‑play system powers up and begins generating quantum light immediately, marking a shift from laboratory‑bound experiments toward equipment that can be deployed directly in field settings.

The new device delivers a stable stream of individual photons at ambient conditions, simplifying the infrastructure required for quantum‑based technologies such as secure communications, precision metrology and emerging quantum computing architectures.
