Kenya to host 2029 World Athletics Championships, first time in Africa

The World Athletics Championships will be staged on the African continent for the first time when Kenya hosts the 2029 edition, World Athletics announced on Monday. Organisers expect the 2029 championships to attract more than 2,000 athletes from over 200 nations, with a projected economic impact of several hundred million dollars for Kenya’s tourism and service sectors. Preparations will involve collaborations between World Athletics, the Kenyan government and private partners to ensure compliance with global standards for competition venues, anti‑doping measures and broadcast capabilities.
