June Highest Civilian Death Toll in Ukraine in Four Years, UN Reports

More than 293 Ukrainian civilians were killed and 1,990 injured in Russian attacks across the country during June, the United Nations monitoring mission in Ukraine reported on Tuesday. The figures represent the highest civilian toll for a single month since April 2022, when the conflict intensified following Russia’s full‑scale invasion. The mission’s data, compiled from local authorities, hospitals and other sources, adds to a cumulative count of 16,431 verified civilian deaths recorded since the war began in February 2022.

The UN mission said the surge in casualties reflects a marked increase in the frequency and intensity of strikes on populated areas, including residential districts and infrastructure. While the overall death toll continues to rise, officials emphasized that the verification process remains ongoing and that the numbers likely underestimate the full human cost of the conflict.
