JioHotstar Expands to UK, Canada, Singapore Without Sports

JioHotstar, the joint streaming platform of Reliance Jio and Star India, is set to launch in the United Kingdom, Canada and Singapore later this year. According to company statements, the service will initially offer only entertainment content, including movies, television series and original programming, and will not carry sports or news coverage at launch.

The decision to limit the catalogue to entertainment is part of the platform’s phased rollout strategy. By focusing on a core set of titles, JioHotstar aims to establish a foothold in each market before expanding its content mix. The company has indicated that future updates may introduce additional genres, but the first releases in the UK, Canada and Singapore will remain strictly entertainment‑based.
