Iran Revolutionary Guards claim attack on US base in Jordan
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced on Wednesday that it had carried out a bombing of a U.S. military installation in Jordan, describing the strike as retaliation for recent American attacks on Iranian oil tankers. The IRGC said the operation was a direct response to U.S. forces destroying five Iranian oil tankers on Tuesday, an action taken after Iran allegedly targeted an American warship—a second such incident reported within a week.
U.S. officials have not confirmed the details of the alleged Jordanian base attack, but the escalation follows a series of confrontations in the region that have heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington. The U.S. destruction of the tankers was justified by the Pentagon as a defensive measure against Iranian aggression toward its naval assets. France 24’s Reza Sayah reported from Tehran on the developments, noting that both sides appear poised for further military responses amid the deepening dispute.
