Iran freezes assets of 240 dissidents as protest arrests exceed 6,000

Tehran’s judiciary announced on Wednesday that it has frozen 182 bank accounts and seized assets belonging to journalists, activists and other public figures accused of collaborating with “hostile governments.” The move, part of a broader crackdown on dissent, targets individuals alleged to have used their positions to advance foreign interests, according to statements from the judiciary’s spokesperson.

Since the start of the year, Iranian authorities have carried out at least 532 executions, including 29 people linked to the ongoing protests that erupted after the death of Mahsa Amini. Human‑rights groups have warned that the surge in capital punishment and the recent financial sanctions against dissenters signal an intensifying effort by the regime to suppress opposition and control public discourse.
