Indonesia Seeks to Repatriate Five Baby Orangutans from India

Indonesian authorities are coordinating the repatriation of five baby orangutans that were reportedly trafficked to India, Jakarta’s forestry ministry confirmed to AFP on Friday. The infant primates were discovered alone in a forest in India, raising concerns about their welfare and the illegal wildlife trade.

The ministry said it is working with Indian officials to ensure the animals are safely returned to Indonesia for rehabilitation. The case highlights ongoing efforts to curb the trafficking of endangered species and underscores the need for international cooperation in protecting wildlife.

Once the orangutans arrive back in Indonesia, they will be placed under the care of the forestry department’s wildlife rehabilitation program, where they will receive medical treatment and monitoring before being released into a protected habitat.
